Doyle Wham is delighted to present the first worldwide solo exhibition of Umseme Uyakhuluma, an all-female artistic collective whose eponymous project is inspired by ancient forms of communication on the African continent. Umseme Uyakhuluma: A Celestial Conversation documents the journey of two women who answer a calling to perform a ritual enabling them to spiritually reconnect with the land and heal their bloodline. This calling first came to the artist Zana Masombuka (aka Ndebele Superhero) in a dream and led her to form the Umseme Uyakhuluma collective.

The Other Art Fair London

"When the art world as you knew it went one way, we went the other. Where elitism is the norm, we dared to deviate. Art isn’t confined to convention or rule, and how you enjoy it shouldn’t be either.

We’ve created something different, and we want you to experience it. We combine affordable and original artworks and 200 independent artists with immersive installations, performances, DJs – and a fully stocked bar.

Here, art is for everyone"

KV Duong - Between this Body and the World at Harlesden High Street

Between This Body and the World
explores the space where identity, history, and materiality converge. Rooted in the deeply personal and transnational journey of the artist, this exhibition examines the body as both a vessel—literally, through the use of his body as a painting tool—and a threshold, mediating the constant negotiation between intimate personal histories and the larger forces of society, politics, and culture.

’Soft Edge of the Blade’ at Shipton Gallery - curated by Henrietta Scrine

Since 2007, microblogging and social networking site Tumblr has provided young women with a platform to express their identity and emotional state through curated images, writings, and multimedia content. Curated by Henrietta Scrine, Soft Edge of the Blade delves into the intricate and often misunderstood world of internet-age girlhood, specifically focusing on the Tumblr Sad Girl aesthetic of the early 2010s.

Tumblr Sad Girl combined elements of vintage and retro imagery, pop culture references, and feminine, often ethereal visuals to create a unique narrative of modern girlhood. Soft Edge of the Blade highlights the artistic beauty of the Sad Girl while also emphasising its importance as a form of emotional expression and cultural critique. Each of the exhibiting artists captures the genre’s balance between vulnerability and resilience, exploring themes of melancholy, introspection, and emotional authenticity.

Staub (Störung) by Maren Karlson at Soft Opening

In Staub (Störung), Karlson scrutinises what it would take to alienate an image from itself and extends this thought to understand whether we ourselves can similarly be alienated from ourselves and how this method could subvert systems of control. If the present signifies the real while the past signifies the unreal; then these works allow an observation of the real from the perspective of the unreal—or the present from the perspective of the past. By examining the detritus of the past in this way, Karlson searches for that which is repressed in the present and seeks to locate how to let this estrangement from reality to become a disordering force that could affect a structural logic from within.
